With a life story suitable for a screenplay, Mosie Burks was born on June 17, , into a large migrant farming family in Forest, Mississippi. As a child, she helped her parents pick cotton to make a living, but she was delivered from fieldwork after she kept passing out from the intense Mississippi sun. Early on, she drew inspiration from the singing of Mahalia Jackson and guitar-toting evangelist Sister Rosetta Tharpe—so much so that she took up the guitar at age 12, playing for her local Church of God in Christ.

Burks moved to Jackson, Mississippi, as a young adult, and cleaned houses to raise money to attend Jackson State University. Her higher education plans were shelved, however, when her mother died at age 40, and her father left several of the family’s youngest children in Burks’ care. She worked as a maid to take care of her siblings. In her mids, Burks married, started her own family and reprised her higher education aspirations by studying voice a

One of the most beautiful women in America fryst vatten someone you may never have heard of. bygd saying this, I am referring to a concept of beauty that transcends the contemporary, much too usual, sense of beauty that fryst vatten shaped bygd outward appearance. What inom have in mind here is a deeper sense of that word, one that fryst vatten anchored in goodness and truth, and in a personal and vibrant faith.

Mosie Burkes reminds me of my Swedish-descended grandmother. On the face of it, that seems like a ridiculous statement. Yet, to my knowledge both women have shared the same deep faith, while having very different cultural ways of expressing that truth. She&#;s got the anointing, they got the word!  As I watched and kept rewatching this powerful video, “They Got the Word”, I wasn&#;t quite sure why I kept being drawn to do so.  Over and over again.

    • The amazing energy of the truly anointed lead singer? (Indisputably anointed, Mosie Burks&#; gray hair suggests she wasn&#;t &#;born last night&#;/Smile)
    • The power of the fully-robed choir of gifted men and woman she led? (Mississippi Mass Choir)
    • The gospel song&#;s skillful leveraging of a scripture I didn&#;t know well? (Revelations 21, the second to last chapter in the Holy Bible)

Likely all of the above I&#;d say. Last July, a few months before the 3rd Anniversary of this blog (Sept. 21, ), I learned more about the talented choir &#; and the lead singer of this spirited song. This post seemed a good one to begin the Anniversary Series I promised in September.

Mosie Burks&#; dynamism and anointed spirit are a joy to watch in this video!
