Grace Poe was born in August 1968 in Iloilo City, Philippines to unknown parents, and on 3 September she was found in the holy water font of the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral. Archbishop of Jaro Jaime Sin and a priest christened her "Grace", believing that she was rescued through the grace of God, and she was taken in by the Militar family. She was later adopted by an unmarried daughter of a sugar baron, who then gave her to film stars Fernando Poe, Jr. and Susan Roces when she decided to move to the United States. Poe was raised by that family, and her parentage is unknown; one rumor states that she is the illegitimate daughter of Ferdinand Marcos with Roces' sister Rosemarie Sonora.
