Early Ministry
In 1977, we moved to Greeley, Colorado, where I shared the Gospel with local University of Northern Colorado students. I started a Bible study in our apartment which met Sunday mornings with 2 college students I had led to the Lord. I didn’t know it at the time that this was my first house church! In Greeley, we met a man named Harry Spykerman from South Africa who was the first apostle I had met personally. I knew that Paul, the church planter, was an apostle. This would be a significant revelation to me later on.
One weekend, Gretchen and I were driving to see our parents in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and I turned to Gretchen and said, “I think I’m more of an evangelist than a pastor.” The Lord broke into my thoughts right then and said unequivocally, “You are a church planter!” I was excited because I knew that Paul was an evangelist, a pastor, an apostle and a church planter. As I began to grow in my walk of learning to flow in the supernatural, I discovered a common “sticking point” or hindrance most people deal with when starting to move out in the gifts of the Spirit. That hindrance is being hesitant to receive from certain ministries because the way they operate the gifts is unfamiliar to them.
When I first moved to Decatur, Texas, to assume my second assignment as pastor of a church there, I reached out to a number of pastors in the area. One of the pastors I met and connected with I will call Phil. Phil and I connected immediately and he, one other pastor in the area, and I began to meet together once a week for coffee, prayer, and fellowship.
Phil was really hungry for God and the move of the Spirit. He had come out of a denomination that did not believe in healing, the gifts of the Spirit, or the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. Divine Connections: Dennis and Denise Capra!
About thirty-one years ago, Dave and I were on a tour bus traveling through England, Ireland and Scotland. The tour was arranged by Will and Barb Graham and featured Andrew Wommack and Dave Duell as speakers as we visited church groups along the way.
We called it the gudomlig Appointment Bus because we met people on it who would become lifelong friends and partners in ministry. Dennis and Denise Capra, longtime homegroup leaders from Kansas City, Missouri, were on this trip.
This divine connection turned into 31 years of working together to advance God’s Kingdom on earth! Dave strongly encouraged them to begin a church, and soon Faith Ministries World Outreach Center was born.
On one of our first visits to the newly-formed church, Dave became infamous for accidentally breaking the pulpit. He was explaining how he heard God laugh at his dreams and visions and slammed his grabb on the pulpit for emphasis and it shattered. This nära
