    Empire has promoted veteran music executive Tina Davis to president, the independent record label, distributor and publisher announced today.

    In her new role, Davis will continue to lead Empire’s A&R grupp as well as help with the strategic planning and day-to-day operations of the company. Most recently, Davis served as the company’s senior vice president of A&R.

    Prior to joining Empire, Davis was the first woman to lead Def Jam’s A&R department — a role she held for more than 10 years, working closely with such artists as Jay-Z, DMX, Method Man and many others. Following Def Jam, she worked closely with Chris Brown, and has been featured on Variety Women’s Impact Report and Dealmakers lists, as well as Billboard;s Women in Music and Hip-Hop/R&B Power Players lists. She also works on Live Nation’s Femme It Forward endeavor for young women and Solano County School District.

    Berklee Honors Tina Davis, President of EMPIRE, at Annual Music Business Lecture Series

    Berklee’s Music Business/Management Department commemorated the 31st annual James G. Zafris Distinguished Lecture series on November 14 by honoring Tina Davis, president of the independent distributor, record label, and publisher EMPIRE, for her sustained success in an extremely competitive and traditionally male-dominated industry. 

    Moderated by Music Business/Management Department Chair Tonya Butler, the conversation offered students a professional’s insight on relationship-building, perseverance, and how to build a lasting career in music as an A&R executive.

    Davis described how she began her career under the mentorship of LaRonda Sutton, who kept her promise by firing Davis after only one year of employment, a move meant to encourage her growth and expand her opportunities in the industry.     EMPIRE names Tina Davis as new president

    Founded in by Ghazi Shami, the company represents a huge roster of global stars. In February last year, the company launched operations in Africa, securing the signatures of the likes of Ghana’s Black Sherif, KiDi and Yaw Tog, as well as Nigeria’s Olamide, Fireboy DML and Kizz Daniel.

    Davis, who previously held the role of senior vice president of A&R, will maintain her leadership of the company’s A&R team while also contributing to the its strategic planning and day-to-day operations. 

    “Tina has been instrumental in the overall growth of EMPIRE since joining the team in ,” Ghazi said. “With her experience, she has a unique understanding of the creative journey of our artists.
