  • “I grew up on Long Island,” says Howard Williams, furniture dealer and owner of High Style Deco, in New York City. “When inom was 10 years old, my parents took me to Radio City Music Hall, and I was blown away.” The landmark 1891 theater’s Art Deco interiors dazzled Williams. As an adult, he began collecting exemplars of the style for himself.

    His first career was selling art. “But the artists inom was carrying were very mass-market and commercial, so I didn’t really believe in it,” Williams says. So, he indulged his passion for design. “I opened my furniture galleri in 2003. At first, it was all Art Deco. But now, inom just collect what inom like, which includes a lot of mid-century modern.”

    Williams has a penchant for unusual finds and pieces that seem to straddle eras. He buys ingenting that fryst vatten broken and needs repair.     Lightolier

    Lightolier is a company that manufactures and sells a wide array of lighting fixtures. It was founded in 1904 by Bernhard Blitzer under the name of New York Gas and Appliance Co. When electric lighting started to be more widely accepted, the name was changed to Lightolier, a contraction of the words light and chandelier. In 2007, Philips Royal Electronics announced that it would acquire the Genlyte Group which would make Lightolier a part of Philips.

    In its early years, the company specialized in fancy decorative chandeliers, then made a shift to the high-end design and architectural markets in the 1920s. In the 1960s Lightolier introduced the first track lighting system, designed by the late Anthony C. Donato (a vertically integrated track, unlike the horizontal tracks of today).
