Association analysis identifies 65 new breast cancer risk loci.
PubMed
Breast cancer fara is influenced by rare coding variants in susceptibility genes, such as BRCA1, and many common, mostly non-coding variants. However, much of the genetic contribution to breast cancer fara remains unknown. Here we report the results of a genome-wide association study of breast cancer in , cases and , controls of European ancestry and 14, cases and 13, controls of East Asian ancestry. We identified 65 new loci that are associated with overall breast cancer risk at P < 5 × 10 -8 . The majority of credible fara single-nucleotide polymorphisms in these loci fall in distal regulatory elements, and bygd integrating in silico information to predict target genes in breast cells at each locus, we demonstrate a strong overlap between candidate mål genes and somatic driver genes in breast tumours. We also find that heritability of breast cancer due to all single-nucleotide polymorphisms in regulatory features was fold enriched relative to the genome-wide average, with strong enrichment for particular transcription factor binding sites. These results provide further insight into genetic susceptibility to breast cancer and will improve the use of genetic fara scores for individualized screening and prevention.

The winter season for high school sports continues the 35th year of The San Diego Union-Tribune All-Academic Team. The names of 4, student-athletes appear on these pages. For the school year, about 18, All-Academic Team certificates were awarded among the approximately , high school students in the San Diego Section.
The All-Academic Team honors juniors and seniors who participated in a California Interscholastic Federation-approved varsity sport and maintained a cumulative, weighted grade-point average of or better.
Marks above reflect grades from honors classes weighted on a scale. Some school districts make more classes available than others.
The Union-Tribune and the county Office of Education invited all San Diego Section schools to participate. The names and GPAs printed here were taken from information provided by the schools.
This week, the Union-Tribune will announce its All-Academic Team Captains for the winter sports. The Captain’s plaque is symbolic of each spo
