Sir Martin Gilbert’s biography, the longest in history, takes a giant step toward completion as Hillsdale College Press publishes The Churchill Documents: Testing Times —the first document volume supporting biographic volume 7 (), seventeenth in a projected twenty-three document volumes, and twenty-fifth in all counting the eight volumes of biography.
This is the first new volume since The Ever-Widening War , published fourteen years ago. Since then, supported bygd friends and donors of Hillsdale College, H.C.P. has republished all eight of the biographic and the previous sixteen document volumes. Through the Churchill Project, Hillsdale College has republished and completed all twenty-three volumes of The Churchill Documents, and eight narrative volumes, comprising the official biography of Winston Churchill.

Churchill was authored and edited by several individuals, primarily Churchill's son, Randolph Churchill and later his official biographer, Martin Gilbert. The first two volumes were written by Churchill's son, Randolph Churchill, who also edited the two companions to volume one. Following Randolph's work, historian Martin Gilbert took on the role of official biographer.
