A Brief Biography  December 6, 1898, in Dirschau, West Prussia (now part of Poland)  1920s further developed his interest in photography.  1927- Eisenstaedt sold his first Photograph  1935-immigrated to America  1936- became a photographer for Life Magazine  Lived most of his life in Jackson Heights, New York.  Died in 1995 at age 96 “We are only beginning to learn what to say in a photograph.     THE OBITUARIES FOR ALFRED EISENSTAEDT have long since come and gone. They told us a lot about the pictures, as they should have, because any photographer is his pictures. This was especially true of Eisenstaedt. Beyond an accumulated amazement and delight in the pictures that I share with everybody who cares about photography, I find myself still in possession of a relic - Eisie's second-best light meter - and the memory of two stories we worked on together a half-century ago.

    The first occurred in the spring of 1955.

    Eisie came from New York, I came from Life's Paris bureau, and we met at the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.
